What are We Doing?

It is estimated that the cost of the presidential political campaigns in 2016 will be 5 billion dollars, according to The Hill. Really?

There are 14.7 million poor children in our nation. This exceeds the populations of 12 U.S. states combined: Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Maine, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming and is greater than the combined populations of the countries of Sweden and Costa Rica. Our nearly 6.5 million extremely poor children (living below half the poverty line) exceeds the combined populations of Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont and Wyoming and is greater than the populations of Denmark or Finland.

The Golden Mean

I have been silent on much that is happening in the world not because I am not deeply touched but because I am deeply touched. Tonight what rose up in me was an overwhelming sense of awareness that the real lasting change the world needs now will only come from within. In order for the world to change, we have to change. In order for us to change we have to remember who we are in relationship to everything and everyone around us. None of us were born with labels. We came in as intimate gifts from the Creator to our families, communities, nations and the world. With all of the hate that is being projected through the media, with the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction/distraction available to everyone…we really need to take pause else we become the pawns in a sick world. When we do pause and still ourselves, we can connect with a greater story that can separate truth from fiction. We can remember the Ancient stories that are in every tradition and find our way to a better world. Maybe this isn’t the story that excites, that get the adrenaline going, or makes us famous but it does make us whole, balanced, loving, in awe of our diversity, creative in our solutions to problems, independent and courageous, tolerant and wise…the stuff upon which this Universe was created. Only here do we access the golden mean…the desirable middle ground between the extremes, peace.
